Meet Dr. Anna Yuan
Dr. Yichen (Anna) Yuan is a voice educator and performer dedicated to developing healthy, reliable singing voices grounded in solid technique and artistic integrity.
Anna began her musical studies in piano before discovering a deep passion for voice, which led to early performance opportunities on local television in China. She later pursued advanced vocal studies in the United States and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from the University of North Texas. She also earned her Master of Music from Bowling Green State University and her Bachelor of Arts from Sichuan Conservatory of Music.
As a performer, Dr. Yuan has appeared in leading operatic roles including the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), and Sister Anne of the Cross (Dialogues des Carmélites), among other opera scene engagements include Musetta (La boheme), Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Susanna and Rosina (Le Nozze di Figaro).
With over ten years of teaching experience, Dr. Yuan works with singers of all ages and backgrounds. Her students have earned placements in Texas All-State choirs, UIL, and gained admission to collegiate music programs. She continues to balance performance insight with pedagogical research in her studio work.
Teaching Philosophy
Dr. Yuan’s teaching centers on building sustainable technique through coordination, efficiency, and vocal awareness. She believes that healthy singing should feel stable, clear, and increasingly free—not forced or dependent on momentary inspiration.
Her approach is rooted in bel canto principles and informed by vocal science. Lessons focus on:
-
Establishing balanced breath and phonation
-
Reducing unnecessary tension
-
Building consistency across range and repertoire
-
Developing independence through understanding, not imitation
-
Building confidence up as building the voice up
Dr. Yuan works across classical repertoire, musical theatre, and contemporary styles while maintaining technical integrity. She does not promote shortcuts or rapid results at the expense of vocal health. Instead, she guides students step by step, helping them build confidence grounded in coordination and long-term growth.
Her studio is best suited for students who value careful instruction, structured development, and sustained artistic progress.
